News and Information for the Senior Citizens of Geauga County Ohio

We are dedicated to the senior citizens of Geauga County, Ohio. Our mission is to deliver news, information, and services to the senior citizens of Geauga County. We are responsible for delivering, planning, coordinating services and resources for seniors in areas that include, but are not limited to: dietician, transportation, meals, adult day care, information and referral, health assessment and health programs, socialization and education, telephone reassurance and visiting, newsletters, and volunteer placement, respite and chore services. We also serve as an advocate for older persons and conducts special programs and public hearings to collect, evaluate and distribute information relative to senior needs.

2009 Senior Services Issue 4 Fact Sheet

  • According to Forbes Magazine, Geauga County is the 4th best county in the country in which to live and raise your family.
  • In the last census Geauga County had the greatest percentage increase in seniors over the age of 75 in the state of Ohio.
  • The senior population is growing in every township, village and city in Geauga County. The total senior population is approaching 19,000, with approximately 15,000 seniors accessing services and programs through the Department on Aging.
  • There are 5 senior centers in Geauga County, all operated by the Geauga Department on Aging with a staff of
    27 people and 1,555 volunteers.
  • The Department operates on an annual budget of $2.4 million providing over 45 services and programs including Home Delivered Meals, transportation, education and socialization. The average monthly cost for services per senior in the county is $10.72.
  • The $10.72 per senior per month in the county is used to keep seniors in their own homes. It can be compared to the average monthly cost of a senior in a nursing home in Ohio at $6,023 per month.
  • The Senior Services Levy on the Ballot in November will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $30.63 per year and takes effect January 1, 2011.
  • Geauga County residents have a long history of caring for our own citizens. Please help maintain that level of care.
